Planting & Care Instructions

Location:

Choose a sunny spot that receives at least 5-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Dragon fruit thrives in warm, bright conditions and needs ample sunlight for healthy growth and fruit production.

Soil:

Plant the Yellow Ecuador Palora Dragon Fruit in well-drained, nutrient-rich potting soil. Ensure the soil has a slightly acidic to neutral pH, ideally between 5.5 and 6.5, for optimal growth. Mix in perlite to improve drainage.

Planting Depth:

Plant the dragon fruit in free-draining soil, ensuring it's buried 1-2 inches deep.

Watering:

Water the plant regularly, allowing the soil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Dragon fruit plants are drought-tolerant, so increase watering during the hot summer months and reduce it during the cooler winter season.

Temperature:

The plant thrives in temperatures ranging from 15°C to 40°C. It is ideal for regions with warm climates. Protect it from frost and extreme cold.

Pruning:

Prune to remove dead or unproductive stems and encourage more fruit production, using sterilised tools to ensure clean cuts.

Fertilisation:

Use organic fertilisers like goat dung manure, fish amino acid, and bone meal during the growing season, applying them once a month. Be careful to avoid over-fertilisation, as it can harm the plant.

Keep an eye out for common pests like mealybugs, aphids, and termites. Use Verticillium lecanii biopesticide, pest controllers for sucking pests, or neem cake to manage them effectively. Ensure good air circulation around the plant to prevent fungal infections.

Harvesting and Usage

Harvesting Time:

The fruit ripens about 35 days after flowering. It is ready for harvest when the skin turns completely yellow, and the thorns fall off easily.

Uses:

The Yellow Ecuador Palora Dragon Fruit is versatile and can be enjoyed fresh, added to fruit salads, or used in desserts like jams, jellies, and ice creams. Its unique flavour also pairs well with savoury dishes.
