  • Versatile Growing Options:

Grow it as a centerpiece on a pergola, cover a garden fence, or let it cascade from a balcony or terrace.

  • Native to India:

Perfectly suited for the Indian climate, this tropical and subtropical vine thrives in warm, frost-free regions.

Key Features

  • Fast-Growing Evergreen:

A vigorous climber reaching up to 20 feet in height, it’s perfect for large spaces and vertical gardening.

  • Attracts Pollinators:

Its sweet nectar draws sunbirds, hummingbirds, and other pollinators, adding charm to your garden.

  • Low Maintenance:

Requires minimal care, making it ideal for both novice and experienced gardeners.

  • Eye-Catching Leaves:

Dark green, lance-shaped foliage add to its beauty, perfectly complementing the colourful flowers.

Growing & Care Tips

Light:

Thrives in full sun to partial shade. For the best flowering results, ensure 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily. Ensure 4-6 hours of direct sunlight daily to maximise flowering. Avoid full shade as it reduces blooming frequency.

Watering:

Keep the soil consistently moist but not waterlogged. Water when the top inch of soil feels dry. Reduce watering during winters when the plant enters dormancy.

Soil:

Grows well in well-draining, fertile soil rich in organic matter. Use a mix of garden soil, sand, and compost in equal parts for optimum growth. Avoid heavy clay soils or waterlogging conditions.

Fertiliser:

Feed every 4-6 weeks during the growing season with organic fertilisers like fish amino acids or neem cake. For more blooms, use bone meal or epsom salt sparingly. Avoid over-fertilising to prevent excessive foliage growth.

Temperature:

Prefers a warm, humid climate with temperatures between 18–32°C. Can tolerate short periods of cooler weather but is not frost-hardy.

Pruning:

Regular pruning after the flowering season helps maintain shape and encourages bushier growth. Remove dead or damaged branches to promote healthy air circulation and reduce disease risk.

Support:

Provide sturdy support like a trellis, pergola, or arbor. Its cascading growth will create a dramatic visual effect, especially when in full bloom. The more support, the quicker it grows and blooms.

Pest Control:

Generally resistant to pests, but watch out for spider mites and mealybugs. Treat infestations with neem oil or organic insecticides like Beauveria Bassiana.

Where to Grow Thunbergia Mysorensis?

  • In Pots or Grow Bags:

Select a large pot or grow bag that is 18-24 inches in diameter and has good drainage. Place the pot in a bright spot.

  • On the Ground:

For lush growth, plant directly in the soil with ample vertical space and support.

  • Garden Fences & Pergolas:

Train this vine on a pergola or fence for a magnificent, cascading floral display.
